A Georgia jogger says a routine morning run turned dangerous near Marietta after she greeted a driver with a simple “good morning” and then became the target of a vehicle attack, according to police.
Authorities say Jesse Allen Davis, 21, allegedly tried to strike the woman three times on July 19 near an apartment complex about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. Cobb County Police Department spokesman Eric Smith said Davis got into a vehicle and, for reasons that were not immediately clear, attempted to hit the jogger while she was in a parking lot. The woman told investigators the first attempt clipped her, and the driver then kept coming after her.
The chase did not stop there. Police said Davis followed her through the parking lot, hit a parked car, and then slammed into a pole, badly bloodying his face. The woman ran for cover behind a dumpster before calling 911. Another motorist, Lloydethan White, said he also came close to being struck during the chaos.
“When I had seen him, he almost hit my car and her,” White said. He added that it was wrong for a woman to have to fear for her life while simply trying to go about her day and work out.
Davis was arrested and booked into Cobb County Jail, where he is being held on $5,720 bond. Jail records show he faces aggravated assault and hit-and-run charges.
