Joe Scarborough blasts Democrats over far-left voices was the focus of a heated segment on “Morning Joe,” where the MSNBC host accused party leaders of letting the most controversial voices in their coalition rise without enough pushback. Scarborough said Democrats are acting as if they are “too woke to call out the obvious,” and argued that posture is hurting the party politically.
The segment aired after MS Now showed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” where she was asked about her refusal to endorse Francesca Hong, a Wisconsin democratic socialist candidate who has previously called for abolishing the police, prisons, and Thanksgiving. Ocasio-Cortez sidestepped the question and said Hong had moved away from some of those earlier views. She also repeated a line from a New York City councilman: “Woke 1 was crazy.”
Scarborough pushed back hard on that answer and said there was no hidden strategy behind the backlash facing the Democratic Socialists of America. He pointed to the rise of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom he described as pragmatic, and noted what he called his strong approval, the city’s lowest murder rate on record, and a thriving economy. At the same time, Scarborough said some DSA figures in New York have been making statements that ordinary voters would find extreme.
He singled out remarks tied to pro-Hamas rallies held the day after Hamas killed more Jews than on any day since the Holocaust, saying most Americans would find that position abhorrent. Scarborough said Democrats and their allies often blur the issue by reducing it to policy disagreements, but insisted the problem was not about healthcare or other standard liberal priorities. In his telling, the concern is about rhetoric he viewed as hate speech.
