A Florida webcam case has drawn Jeffrey Fischer, 44, of DeBary, into a widening child exploitation investigation after authorities said he hid a camera in a minor’s bedroom and shared the livestream with a man already facing serious child sex abuse allegations. Fischer was arrested Aug. 4 after texts linked him to Daniel Rodriguez, 35, who had been arrested in May, according to investigators.
Authorities say Fischer’s messages to Rodriguez included fantasies about abusing the girl whose room was allegedly monitored by the hidden camera. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office also says Fischer used artificial intelligence to create explicit images and videos of that girl, along with another teenager and three adult women. Fischer now faces 21 charges, including two counts of sexual battery on a child younger than 12, six counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child younger than 12, and 50 counts of possession of material depicting sexual conduct by a child.
The case is tied to the larger investigation into Rodriguez, who prosecutors say is facing a push for the death penalty. Florida State Attorney’s Office officials said in June that it is the first case in the 18th Judicial Circuit in which prosecutors are seeking capital punishment for especially heinous sex crimes against children that did not result in death. That move underscores how aggressively investigators and prosecutors are treating the allegations in this case.
Rodriguez was arrested in May for allegedly raping, molesting, and exposing himself to two young relatives, while also trafficking child pornography involving girls as young as 2, according to WFLA. Prosecutors said investigators tied nearly 300 photos and videos depicting child sexual abuse to a Verizon account connected to a mobile phone number assigned to Rodriguez. Some of the material allegedly showed Rodriguez sexually abusing a prepubescent female relative in different poses, while other files allegedly showed him masturbating in front of a girl and a boy.
