Khadfi Fleming is now being sought in connection with a Philadelphia gunfight after an off-duty officer confronted suspects who allegedly tried to steal his Dodge Charger. The 19-year-old, already wanted in a robbery case tied to the killing of Penn State student Billy Schmidt, has been named by the U.S. Marshals Service as a person of interest in the Monday aggravated assault of the officer.
The confrontation began early Monday after thieves allegedly targeted the officer’s car, according to Fox 29 Philadelphia. The off-duty officer followed the suspects and faced them, and gunfire was exchanged. Authorities believe no one was hit. Investigators later recovered the officer’s Charger with a broken window and damage to the steering column, along with multiple 9mm shell casings, Fox 29 reported. Officials also say the suspects switched to another stolen vehicle, a Lexus that was later found abandoned.
The U.S. Marshals Service said it is offering an immediate cash reward for information that leads to Fleming’s location. In a post on X, the agency said its Philadelphia office is offering the reward for Fleming, 19, who is wanted for robbery and is also a person of interest in the Monday attack. Fleming has not been charged in connection with the latest incident.
Fleming was already the target of law enforcement because of the June killing of Schmidt, a 22-year-old Penn State student who was shot while walking home from an NBA Finals watch party. Schmidt was blocks from his South Philadelphia home and was killed around 1:30 a.m. on June 6. Surveillance video captured the moments before the shooting, including Schmidt asking for his stolen phone back before a gunshot was heard.
