Terence Donovan dies at 90, leaving behind a six-decade career that made him a familiar face to Australian television audiences. The British-Australian actor, known for roles in Neighbours and Home and Away, died peacefully in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday night, according to his family.
His son, actor Jason Donovan, confirmed the news in a post shared with his brother Paul. He described his father as a “huge character” and said the family had been with him in his final days. Jason Donovan added that they took comfort in knowing he “lived life to the max.”
Born in London, Terence Donovan moved to Australia as a teenager and first worked as a singer before making his screen debut in the early 1960s. He later built a strong reputation in television, landing one of his best-known parts in the 1970s as Detective Mick Peters in Division 4, followed by Detective Senior Sergeant Vic Cameron in Cop Shop.
He went on to join Neighbours in the 1990s as Doug Willis, after Jason Donovan had already left the show. He also appeared as Al Simpson on Home and Away. Beyond television, his film credits included The Man from Snowy River and Breaker Morant, and he also worked on stage.
