Charlotte police say a social media video helped connect a Charlotte sidewalk attack to a man with a long arrest history. Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, was arrested Thursday after officers reviewing a social media account were shown videos detectives had already been examining.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said one of those videos matched an assault reported July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard in the Providence Division. Investigators say the video shows a woman being punched on a sidewalk before the suspect ran off. Police said Hunt was taken to a local medical facility for treatment after his arrest and will later be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Fox News Digital reviewed clips posted to the account. One video appeared to show a woman being chased until she ducked behind a vehicle, followed by a comment from the account that read, “Ahhhh feels GOOD!!!” Another clip showed the person behind the camera confronting a woman. The camera then jolted, a punch could be heard, and the woman was shown on the ground as the person filming kept taunting her and appeared to strike her again.
Police have not publicly said whether either of those clips is the exact footage tied to the July 30 assault. It also was not immediately clear whether the women shown in the videos had been identified or whether detectives are treating the other clips as possible crimes. CMPD said the investigation remains open and urged anyone with information about incidents connected to the social media account to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
The case has drawn attention because the arrest was not just linked to a single encounter. Mecklenburg County records show Hunt had been arrested at least nine times between October 2023 and December 2025. The most recent record from December 2025 lists charges including assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats, second-degree trespass and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
