DoorDash Delivery Attack Leaves Mom Hospitalized

A DoorDash delivery attack in Jacksonville, North Carolina left mother of three Christen Phillips hospitalized with severe head injuries after deputies say a man followed her and beat her with a bat.

Phillips said she suffered multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds after the alleged assault on Aug. 1. She said blood and cerebral fluid drained from her left ear for hours, and that her left cheekbone was also fractured. The suspect, identified by authorities as Stanley Shockley, 44, is now behind bars. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says he is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began when Phillips was stopped at an intersection and waited for the driver ahead of her to move. Shockley was reportedly in the vehicle behind her. After Phillips honked, deputies say the other vehicle moved forward and then began following her. By the time Phillips reached the delivery location and got back to her car, she says the man jumped out and struck her with a baseball bat before running off.

Phillips described the attack in a social media post, saying the man came to her door with a small wooden bat or baton and hit her in the head and face. She said she did not remember the assault and woke up later without knowing how much time had passed. Even after the attack, she was able to drive herself to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for the injuries she says she suffered.
