Port Washington is two wins away from Williamsport after opening its first Little League World Series regional game with a 10-3 win over Lincoln, R.I., at Leon J. Breen Field in Bristol, Conn., on Saturday evening. The New York State champs treated the moment like business, building an early lead and never letting Lincoln fully recover.
The Port Washington regional game started fast. Left fielder Carlo Cafferata doubled in the first run, and first baseman Max Dempsey added another on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice. By the third inning, Port had loaded the bases again and kept pressure on Lincoln pitcher Tucker Choiniere before third baseman Jack Gomez delivered a warning-track-length single that brought in two more runs. When action resumed, Cafferata surrendered a run on a wild pitch, but he responded by striking out Jackson Lockhart with two runners on to end the inning and protect the lead.

The offense kept working through the last frame. Shortstop Brandon Kien drove in two runs with a single, then moved to second on a throwing error. He later scored from second on a wild pitch and another errant throw to third, pushing the score to 10-3. Gorynski came back in to close and escaped a bases-loaded, two-out threat by getting Eli Lambert to pop out.
The win gave Port Washington a strong start to its regional push and kept the team on track in the winners bracket. It is now scheduled to play Monday at 1 p.m., with a victory sending it into the Metro Region finals. A loss would not end the run, since Port would still have a double-elimination game Wednesday night for a chance at the tristate championship.
