A Russian missile attack near Kryvyi Rih killed eight people, including three children, after a strike tore through a family home in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack a horrific crime and said the dead included parents Artem and Olena Voronov and three of their children.
Zelensky said the home in Radushne was destroyed by a ballistic missile, leaving almost nothing standing. He said the family’s other children and a grandson were still missing after Russia launched more than 70 missiles and over 280 drones overnight. Officials also said eight people were wounded, among them an 84-year-old woman taken to hospital and two children pulled from the rubble alive.
The strike hit near Zelensky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, a detail that underscores how deeply the war continues to cut into civilian life. Local defence council chief Oleksandr Vilkul said two private homes were destroyed in the attacks. Zelensky later argued that the world could not look away from what he described as Russian terror and repeated his call for stronger air defences, including Patriot interceptor missiles.
The Russian missile attack also spread damage beyond the Kryvyi Rih area. In Kyiv, one person died and fires broke out in three non-residential buildings overnight, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. In Poltava, the mayor reported another death after saying a Nova Poshta postal terminal had been hit. In Lviv, explosions were reported and residential buildings were damaged, with some people injured and others trapped under a building as residents helped rescuers clear debris.
The overnight barrage came after Zelensky had warned that Moscow was preparing a massive attack. It also followed his trip to Washington, where he met President Donald Trump and pushed for a US licence that would allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. Zelensky has argued that the ability to defend against Russian ballistic missiles is central to saving lives.
